I would suggest getting it and doing two pages a day just to study it and learn to read some basic piano, even if you can only pick out one note at a time. As you work through it you'll notice the way you hear and the way you sing will automatically start to change. It's certainly the best explanation of the mechanics of jazz, and the amazing depth of the content is matched by the care and accuracy of the presentation. An invaluable resource for all improvising musicians regardless of instrument.

The Jazz Theory Book has the clarity that most pedagogical books strive for. This book seems to have left no stone unturned in what one should know about the inner sanctum of jazz theory. The most fruitful information is generally derived from the source and that is the essence of this book. This book is connected to the music of our Jazz Masters.

You can't get any better than that. Even the mature musician will find information here. Truly a magnificent accomplishment. Would you like to tell us about a lower price? If you are a seller for this product, would you like to suggest updates through seller support?

Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. There were obvious gaps in my theory and my technique had disintegrated over the years, so when researching a methodology for approaching the piano I came across Mark Levine's 'Jazz Theory' and found the Holy Grail.

At the time I even contemplated ironing out my 'education' by enrolling in a Bachelor of Music, however when I saw the content of this book and the robust approach it takes I knew that my plan was to devour this book; study it, apply it, absorb it, but above all, practice, practice, practice. This book is virtually a Music degree in itself. Overall, the deal is this, and I'm applying this to myself at the moment and have done for the last 12 months; if you follow this book, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download, page by page, review periodically, practise your butt off 3 hrs daily minimum transpose everything into every key, and basically, suck this book like a sponge, you'll be as good as any decent jazz piano major from any music college.

Don't believe me? Prove it to yourself by doing the following: 1. Get this book 2. Study it 3. Format: Spiral-bound Verified Purchase. If, like me, you are a pianist seeking to learn to improvise, this is not the book for you. Don't get me wrong. The book might be very useful to the jazz theorist but it is head-spinning for the amateur seeking to learn improvisation. Levine's is a top-down approach to learning, by which I mean he goes through every scale, and every associated chord BEFORE you play anything other than scales and chords.

Again, not for amateurs and not very much fun. It is the definitive text - but in the Kindle version all of the illustrations are difficult read read and are cut off weirdly. I think the only thing that could make this book any better is if it came with CDs of all the musical examples. I have only ready the first two chapters and a lot of things have become clearer for me.

I would not say this book is very the absolute novice, but if you have some theory and knowledge of your instrument as an intermediate player you will gain a lot from working through this book.

It would help to be able to read both treble and bass clef such as a piano player does but it is not mark levine jazz theory book pdf download absolute must. I am a guitarist and theory is theory. A great book to buy, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download does not disappoint and it will not leave you scratching your head and tossing it to the side out of frustration.

I just received this book yesterday and I'm already hooked, it also came in two days too! Too long have I gone playing piano for jazz bands and jazz choirs not having a great understanding of music theory. I plan on going over this book during my summer vacation. This book has been recommended to me by several established guitar players, honestly, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download, it's going to be lots of work but as Levine said in the introduction Honestly really excited to go through this book!

I have read other books on improvising, sometimes leaving me more confused in the process. Levine's explanation - while sometimes making my head hurt - ultimately makes sense, and helped me make sense of the other materials I have been reading.

This book is well worth the read. My significant other is an mark levine jazz theory book pdf download classical pianist and has wanted to learn jazz piano for a long time, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download. I talked to several professional jazz musicians and all of them referred me to this book.

I am so glad I took their advice. She has spent many evenings a week learning the various scales and chords, why the music differs from mark levine jazz theory book pdf download, how it differs from others, how notes are played differently, and even how to create her own chords based on provided notes. She loves this book and I love that she loves it. Highly recommended! See all reviews from the United States. Top international reviews. This book mark levine jazz theory book pdf download a true gem.

It has a very pragmatic approach to the way it presents the theory behind the way the jazz greats expressed themselves and delivered their souls to us, in sequences of notes! Every point is supported by lots of examples from jazz tunes and even the most complicated and complex elements of jazz theory are made to look simple and easy. It is only after one has finished Chapter 3 that the bulk and weight of the material that has been covered becomes apparent along with the realisation that there are 21 more chapters to follow!

I have several Theory Books, general, Classical and Jazz but none comes even close to this one. The absolute best.

Easy to read too, thanks to the Spiral binding that allows it to stay flat. Pretty big and heavy but what can we expect, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download, it's pages after all. Every mucisian should have this book.

Now if only it had one or more companion CDs with the numeruous examples compiled Thank you for your feedback. Sorry, mark levine jazz theory book pdf download, we failed to record your vote.
